Take a trip to Bowen Island

Going to Vancouver but need help figuring out what to do or where to go. We might be able to help you with that.

We’ll give you an overview of Bowen Island. It is an island municipality under the control of the Islands Trust and a part of Metro Vancouver. It can be found in Howe Sound. You can take a semi-regular water taxi service or a BC Ferries ferry from Horseshoe Bay, which takes 20 minutes to get there.

Situated in the center of Howe Sound, the island is a lovely residential area that makes it a perfect kayaking destination. In addition, it is well-known for its culinary delights, and farm-to-table cuisine, where a lot of restaurants source their ingredients seasonally and locally. This might be the perfect spot for you if you’re seeking a peaceful getaway from the bustling city.

Let’s look into the places where you can stay on the island.

Nectar Yoga is a great place to visit if you’re searching for peace and clarity. With both multi- and single-day retreats, you can encounter healing that reawakens and nourishes the body and spirit. The region spans 20 acres of undeveloped land on Bowen Island. Five cottages with a Scandinavian feel, organic food produced locally, yoga and meditation classes, and extras like massage and tarot readings are available.

We can suggest the Artisan Suites if you’re searching for something more contemporary. It’s bright and contemporary, and the rooms are spotless with amazing views of the forest, mountains, and sea. It’s in Artisan Square, so you should check out the collection of boutique stores, quaint cafes that serve freshly baked pastries, and art galleries and studios. In the Pacific Northwest, some cafes offer a panoramic view of the harbor, which adds to the allure of your trip.

On the Sea, a bed and breakfast with a French theme is another great place to stay. Situated on a private acre of forest, their location is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and faces the ocean directly for over 400 feet.

In addition, Snug Cove, a community on the island’s east coast across from Horseshoe Bay, is worth a visit. The cove is well-known for its marina and its early 20th-century structures, including a row of cottages constructed by the Union Steamship Company that overlook the marina and the old post office. There were up to 800 couples able to dance at Snug Cove, which at the time was British Columbia’s largest dance hall when up to 5,000 people were known to visit in the 1920s.

You’re welcome to stay at their cozy bed and breakfast cottages or in their rustic cabins in the forest.

If you’re looking for more nature-related activities, you can go to Crippen Regional Park. The trails provide something for everyone, from an easy meander through lush forest to a longer circuit around beautiful Killarney Lake to a steep but rewarding hike to the views at Dorman Point.

The park opens at 7:00 a.m. up until 9:00 p.m. up until June 3rd. However, their closing hours will be extended until 10:00 p.m. from June 4th to September 2nd.

There are two trails to choose from for hiking or walking: Dorman Point and the Killarney Lake Loop Trail. The 4 km Killarney Lake Loop Trail encircles the lake and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. The distance to and from the lake will be an additional 5 km if you’re walking there from the ferry. A quick, steep hike from Dormant Lake leads to a viewpoint overlooking the ocean and southern regions. From the festival field, take the trail uphill for about 1.25 km.

There is a bike rack at the Killarney Lake picnic area for cyclists. The majority of the trails that run between Snug Cove and Killarney Lake are shared by horseback riders and hikers. Please give way to riders and hikers for their safety.

If your dog is with you, please make sure they are under constant supervision. The park’s trails are all leash-required. Near Killarney Meadows is a leash-optional area. Additionally, remember to scoop and dispose of your dog’s waste in the designated dog waste bins.

Both indoor and outdoor facilities are available for reservations. At Snug Cove Picnic Area, three picnic shelters can accommodate up to forty people each.

Large gatherings, events, and wedding receptions can all be held at Snug Cove Field. Remember that during special events, there will be fees. The field can accommodate up to fifty people.
